Frequently Asked Questions

  • What does a typical student day look like?

A typical day is built around a healthy rhythm that supports the whole child — mind, body, and spirit.

    • Morning grounding: intentional movement + breathwork to regulate the body and focus the mind, PRAYER AND SCRIPTURE.
    • Outdoor learning block: nature exploration, physical development, and outdoor education.
    • Focused Learning Block 1: core academics and inquiry-based learning.
    • Shared lunch + community time: students eat together, connect, and build responsibility through setup and tidy-up.
    • French + literacy: daily language learning and structured literacy programming.
    • Seasonal enrichment: rotating activities like chess, arts, and music.
    • Outdoor play + leadership: afternoon outdoor play and community building.
    • Focused Learning Block 2: deeper academic learning, projects, and applied skill development.
    • Emotional intelligence & end of day reflection daily: emotional regulation and self-leadership are intentionally practiced throughout the day
  • What subjects do students learn?

We teach strong academics through meaningful, integrated learning.

    Students cover:

    • Literacy
    • Math
    • Science
    • Social Studies
    • Design
    • Art
    • Nature Exploration / Outdoor Learning
    • French
    • Emotional Intelligence + Emotional Regulation
    • Entrepreneurship + Financial Literacy (especially for older students)
  • How do you ignite a love of learning in children?

We build intrinsic motivation by making learning meaningful and life-giving.

    We do this by:

        • giving students real responsibility and real purpose

        • teaching through inquiry, creativity, and hands-on projects

        • allowing children to experience mastery, not just performance

        • helping them discover their gifts and “why”

        • building confidence through challenge and encouragement

When children feel capable, seen, and inspired — the fire returns.

  • How do you make learning relevant and real?

We saturate our curriculum with Real-World Experiences and expert-led workshops once a month.

    These experiences help students:

    • Apply classroom learning to real life.
    • Build confidence and adaptability.
    • Develop leadership and communication.
    • Expand their understanding of the world.
    • Explore careers, skills, and purpose-driven contribution.
  • What kinds of Real-World Experiences do you offer?

    Examples include:

    • Robotics and coding workshops.
    • Horseback riding.
    • Farm visits and nature-based learning.
    • Museums and libraries.
    • Apple picking and seasonal excursions.
    • Ballet and orchestra performances.
    • Local community learning experiences…and many more.
  • What does it mean that The NEW School is an “IB Candidate School”?

The NEW School is a Candidate School for the International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP) and is pursuing authorization as an IB World School.

The IB is world-renowned because it develops students who can:

    • Think critically and independently
    • Communicate with confidence
    • Connect learning across subjects
    • Solve real problems
    • Understand global contexts
    • Lead with integrity and responsibility

IB research shows MYP participation is associated with meaningful differences in critical thinking development compared to non-MYP students.

  • What will the IB mean for my child specifically?

It means your child will learn how to:

    • Ask powerful questions
    • Think deeply and clearly
    • Express ideas confidently
    • Take ownership of learning
    • Apply knowledge to real life
    • Become globally minded and future ready

In short: IB strengthens academic excellence while building capability, confidence, and leadership. Moreover, the IB is the gold standard of education recognized globally.

  • How do you support emotional intelligence and emotional regulation?

Emotional intelligence is not an “extra” at The NEW School — it’s part of the learning.

Research shows SEL improves both life outcomes and academic performance, including measurable gains in achievement.

    Students learn:

        • self-awareness and self-control

        • communication and conflict resolution

        • responsibility and leadership

        • empathy, respect, and character

  • How much time do students spend outdoors?

Every day. Students have two major outdoor blocks (morning and afternoon), and learning often extends outdoors beyond scheduled times.

Research supports outdoor and nature-based learning for wellbeing and socio-emotional development.

  • What grades do you serve?

We currently serve Kindergarten to Grade 8.

  • Do you have specific policies in place?

Yes. We have clear policies and procedures in place to protect children, guide our community, and ensure alignment between home and school.

Please view our standard policies and procedures in the parent portal.

  • What is your approach to gender, race, and cultural topics?

The NEW School is a Christ-centered community guided by biblical truth, parental partnership, and a commitment to forming students with wisdom, discernment, and moral clarity.

We do not teach or promote Critical Race Theory or gender ideology (including gender fluidity) as fact.

Instead of teaching students what to think, we teach them how to think:

    • to ask questions.
    • to research and evaluate evidence.
    • to consider multiple perspectives.
    • to communicate respectfully.
    • to form conclusions with wisdom and integrity.

We believe children deserve an education rooted in truth and character, and we work closely with families to ensure sensitive topics are handled with care, maturity, and alignment with our values.

  • How can our family support The NEW School?

The NEW School is a grassroots movement — building a parallel learning system that restores truth, freedom, excellence, and wholeness to education.

    Donations to our charity help:

    • Resource our school and its students.
    • Strengthen and expand our programming.
    • Extend access to this education beyond our current community.

Charitable tax receipts are issued for all donations.
